The Business Model Canvas (BMC) is an internationally recognized tool that helps entrepreneurs, managers or change agents, summarize their business models in a format that is compact and transparent. In doing so, the BMC serves as an effective instrument to critically analyze how an organization creates, delivers and captures value.  

This seminar familiarizes participants with the concept of business models, its key elements and introduces the BMC through direct application to their current business cases.

Seminar content

  • Introduction of the business modeling and the Business Model Canvas
  • (Including the nine key elements: Value Proposition, Market Channels, Customer Segments, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Activities, Key Partnerships, Key Resources and Cost Structure.)
  • Identifying Customer Segments and defining Value Propositions
  • Identifying the desired Customer Relationships and the appropriate channels to service them
  • Identifying viable Revenue Streams as well as the Cost Structure
  • Identifying Key Activities of the business venture, the Resources that sustain it and the Partnerships that support it

Your benefits

You learn to communicate Value Propositions in a clear and persuasive manner.

You learn to use the BMC framework to analyze a Business Model and realign/ redesign ineffective elements of it.

Upon completion seminar participants are able to

  • develop, evaluate and present a business model using the BMC.
  • understand the interrelated nature of the nine key elements of a business model.

Teaching and learning method

This is online seminar consisting of 3 sessions lasting 2-2.5 hours each. A 4th Session will serve as an opportunity for each participant to present his/her BMC to their Breakout Group and solicit feedback/input. The Trainer will facilitate the process.

Participants will receive prework to maximize the outcome of this compressed format and to personalize the learning experience by preparing their own cases.  Seminar materials will be made available through Dropbox. The video conferencing app Zoom will serve as our medium of interaction.

The seminar is a facilitated workshop environment with discussions, presentation, and defense of the participant´s business models. Small group activities will be done via Zoom’s Breakout Room feature.

Required technical equipment

The seminar will be held via Zoom, the participants will receive the relevant link some days prior to seminar start.
Internet connection, headphones and speakers, if possible a camera (not obligatory).

On the lecturer

Chris Newman is an experienced executive trainer, consultant, coach and educator with a demonstrated history of forging stimulating and transformative learning experiences. Strong management and leadership skills applied to the areas of business development, organizational development and change management.
He worked for Ernst & Young, Cap Gemini, Ericsson and universities, including Webster Private University Vienna, Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt and Donau Universität Krems. Today he is a network partner and trainer for Lighthouse-Organizational Development (www.lighthouse-od.at) and Conos GmbH (www.conos.at).
Having lived, worked and studied in Europe, the US and Asia, he brings a multi-cultural perspective to his work and is fluent in German and English.
